রন্জণ বাবু মাঠের শেষ প্রান্তে বসে দক্ষিণ দিকের লংজাম্পের পীঠের দিকে তাকিয়ে রিম্পার প্রাক্টিস দেখছে৷রিম্পা রন্জন বাবুর এক মাত্র সন্তান৷ রন্জন বাবু নিজেও একসময়  ভালো অ্যাথলেট ছিলেন, এই স্টেডিয়ামের মাঠেই এক সময় তিনিও প্রাক্টিস করেছেন, তিনি ছিলেন জাতীয় স্তরের পোলভল্ট চ্যাম্পিয়ন. মেয়েকে দেখতে দেখতে সেই সব দিনের কথা চোখের সামনে পরিষ্কার হয়ে উঠছে. রিম্পা শারীরিক ভাবে সেরকম সক্ষম নয়  দুর্বল,  আনেমিয়ার পেশেন্ট, রঞ্জন বাবু মেয়েকে তাই সেরকম চাপ ও দেননা কোনো কিছুতে,  রঞ্জন বাবুর কাছে যারা শেখে, তারা খুব পরিশ্রমী, স্টেডিয়াম দশ বার পাক খায়, অনেক এক্সারসাইজ করে, রিম্পা অতো পরিশ্রম করতে পারেনা, তবু রিম্পার ইচ্ছা আছে, একনিষ্ঠতা আছে. রিম্পা দৌড়ে এসে বালির ওপর লাফিয়ে পড়ছে,  রঞ্জন বাবু পায়ে পায়ে এগিয়ে আসে
_____ হচ্ছে না,  হচ্ছে না,  টেকআপ আরো ভালো করে নিতে হবে,  বডি আরো ওপরে তুলতে হবে
_____ হচ্ছে না?   না বাবাই?
_____ হবে হবে
রিম্পা আবার চেষ্টা করবে বলে দৌড়ে পিছনের দিকে ছুটে যায়.
মনসংযোগ করে ছুটে আসে,  টেকআপ নিয়ে লাফিয়ে পড়ে.  রঞ্জন বাবু মেজারমেন্ট টেপ টা বার করে
_____ সুভাষ কত হোলো দেখোতো -
সুভাষ রঞ্জন বাবুর ছাত্র...  রঞ্জন বাবুর কাছেই শেখে. সুভাষ মেজারমেন্ট টেপ নিয়ে মাপতে শুরু করে.
______চোদ্দ ফুট স্যার.
ভালো হয়েছে স্যার. রিম্পা আগের থেকে অনেক ভালো করছে.
রঞ্জন বাবু মনে মনে খুশিই হন.  রঞ্জন বাবুর অসুস্থ মেয়ে.  মনে মনে ভাবেন এই চেষ্টাটাই অনেক. শেষ বছরের  রাজ্য স্তরের রেকর্ড পনেরো ফুট ছিলো, রঞ্জন বাবু স্পোর্টস এসোসিয়েশন এর মেম্বার. আগেই খবর নিয়েছিলেন. মনের ভেতর হয়তো একটা খচখচানি দানা বাঁধছিলো মুহূর্তে সরিয়ে দিয়ে সুভাষ কে বললেন
_____ তোমার প্র্যাকটিস কেমন হোলো, কুল ডাউন এক্সারসাইজ টা করেছো তো.
____ হ্যাঁ স্যার
_____ আর প্রসেনজিৎ,  সমর ওরা তো আজ আসলোনা,  আর মাত্র এক সপ্তাহ বাকি.
_____ স্যার সমর আর  রিম্পা ছাড়া তো রাজ্য স্তরে
_____ আঃ ক্লাব স্পোর্টস গুলো তো আছে,
জেলা স্তরে, প্রতিযোগিতা খুব একটা জোরালো ছিলোনা,  রিম্পা সহযেই রাজ্য স্তরে চলে গেছে,  সমর বরাবরই ভালো, ওযে রাজ্য স্তরে পৌঁছাবে রঞ্জন বাবু আগেই জানতেন.  সমরের ইভেন্ট 100mtrs. run. তবে খুব কি সহজ ছিলো রিম্পার রাজ্য স্তরে আসা?  বারুইপুরের স্বরস্বতী নস্কর, ওকে টপকে এগোনো, তাই বা কি করে হয়,  শেষের লাফ টা স্বরস্বতী তো দিতেই  পারেনি, বুকে অম্বলের ব্যাথায় ছটফট করছিলো, শেষ লাফটা দিতে পারলে, তাও বা কি করে হয়, পাঁচটা লাফ তো দিয়েছিলো, বাড়ি ফিরতে ফিরতে হাজার কথা রঞ্জন বাবুর মাথায় কিলবিল করছে, রিম্পার অসুস্থতা রিম্পার প্রতিবন্ধকতা, নইলে মেয়েটার টেকআপ নেওয়ার ধরণ, সিজারিং টেকনিক টা কি সুন্দর আয়ত্ব করেছে,   রিম্পা খুব আশায় আছে, শুধু রঞ্জন বাবু বুঝতে পারছেন হয়তো অতটা সোজা হবেনা,  শারীরিক শক্তির ও প্রয়োজন,  তবুও মেয়েকে উৎসাহ দিতেই হবে, জেতা ই তো বড়ো কথা নয়,  প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহন করলেও চরিত্র গঠন হয়,  নিজের ভাবনা কে দূরে সরিয়ে দিয়ে মেয়ের দিকে তাকালেন,  সাইকেলের সামনে বসিয়ে মেয়ে কে নিয়ে ফিরছেন রঞ্জন বাবু
_____  বুঝলি মা,  এটাই হোলো সুবর্ণ সময়,  আর মাত্র এক সপ্তাহ,  ভালো করে প্র্যাকটিস টা চালিয়ে যা, 
_____ বাবাই, তুমি বলছো এটা সুবর্ণ সময় -
_____ হ্যাঁ রে মা,  তোর যা পারফরম্যান্স হচ্ছে এটাকেই রেখে দিতে হবে. তারপর দেখবি তোকে আর কেউ আটকাতে পারবে না.
সামনে কমলা লেবু বিক্রি করছে একজন,  রঞ্জন বাবু সাইকেল দাড় করালেন,  মেয়েকে একটা লেবু কিনে দিলেন, প্রায়ই প্র্যাকটিস থেকে ফেরবার পথে কিছু না কিছু কিনে দেন রঞ্জন বাবু মেয়েকে, রিম্পা কমলা লেবু ছাড়িয়ে এক কোয়া বাবার মুখে ঢুকিয়ে দেয়. রঞ্জন বাবুর স্ত্রী বানী গেটের সামনে মেয়ের জন্যই অপেক্ষা করছিলেন, রিম্পা সাইকেল থেকে নেমে ছুটে এসে মাকে জড়িয়ে ধরে,
_____ মা জানো আমি চোদ্দ ফুট লাফিয়েছি -
বাণী একবার রঞ্জন বাবুর দিকে তাকায়,  তারপর রিম্পাকে বলে
____বুঝেছি, বুঝেছি, তবে সারাদিন এসব করলে হবে,  পড়তে বসতে হবে তো,  ক্লাস নাইন,  সামনের বছর মাধ্যমিক. যাও  ভালো করে হাত মুখ ধুয়ে তবে পড়তে বসবে কিন্তু - 
_____ না আমার ক্ষিদে পেয়েছে খেতে দাও
_____ দেবো আগে হাত মুখ ধুয়ে আয়
_____ কি খাবার
_____ দুধ
কথা শেষ না হতেই রিম্পা ছিঁচকাঁদুনের  মতো কেঁদে উঠলো
____ না আমি দুধ খাবোনা,  দুধে গন্ধ
____ রঞ্জন বাবু আদরের সুরে বললেন,  দুধ খাবোনা বললে হবে,  সামনে প্রতিযোগিতা !
রিম্পা ভেতরে চলে যায়. 
_____ তোমার আদরে মেয়েটার বারো বাজছে.
রঞ্জন বাবু হোহো করে হেসে উঠলেন,  সাইকেল বারান্দায় তুলতে তুলতে বললেন
_____ শুধু আমার আদরে??
কথাটা সত্যি,  বাণী দেবী,  রঞ্জন বাবু দুজনেই মেয়েকে খুব ভালোবাসেন,  একমাত্র মেয়েকে নিয়েই সব স্বপ্ন সাজানো.  
_________ কাল সকাল সকাল মেয়েকে নিয়ে একটু বেরোবো, বুঝলে বাণী -
_____ কেন কোথায় যাবে?
_____ একটা ভালো রানিং শু কিনে দেবো.
____ কি মনে হয় ও পারবে?
____ কেন পারবে না,  খুব ভালো করছে.
কথাগুলো রঞ্জন বাবু বললেও মনে মনে একটা দ্বিধা কাজ করছে.  বাণী এতদিন ধরে রঞ্জনের সাথে থাকতে থাকতে অনায়াসেই চোখ পড়তে পারে.  তবে সব সত্য হয়তো বলতে নেই,  তাই  বাণী ও একটু সময়  চুপ করে,  কথা ঘুরিয়ে বলে
____ রিম্পা এলে তুমিও হাত মুখ ধুয়ে এসো খেতে দিচ্ছি.

নতুন রানিং শু, রিম্পা খুব খুশি,  রঞ্জন বাবুও খুব খুশি,  সিনথেটিক ট্রাকে এই রানিং শু তে অনেক সুবিধা হবে. রঞ্জন বাবু অনেকদিন ধরেই ভাবছিলেন মেয়েকে একটা ভালো রানিং শু কিনে দেবেন, আগের বার পুরোনো রানিং শুতে অনেক অসুবিধা হয়েছিলো রঞ্জন বাবু বুঝতে পেরেছিলেন এবার নতুন রানিং শু না দিলে বাঘা বাঘা প্রতিযোগীদের সাথে মুখোমুখি হওয়াই সম্ভব হবেনা . আজ আর মেয়েকে নিয়ে প্র্যাকটিসে যাওয়া যাবেনা,  অনেক বেলা হয়ে গেছে,  একটা ভালো রেস্টুরেন্টে ঢোকে রঞ্জন বাবু, মেয়েকে নিয়ে বেরোলে,  এটা রঞ্জন বাবুর অভ্যেস,  কিছু একটা খাওয়াবেন ই. বাণীর কথা ভেবে প্যাক করেও নিয়েছেন.  রঞ্জন বাবু ভাবেন বাণীও খুব চিন্তায় থাকে মেয়ে কে নিয়ে, দুদিন আগেই,  রিম্পা ওর মামার সাথে বেরিয়েছিলো,  রাস্তায় সেন্সলেস হয়ে যায়.  ধরাধরি করে বাড়ি নিয়ে আসা.  অনেক ডাক্তার দেখিয়েছে,  জন্ম থেকেই এনেমিক, কিছু করবার নেই,  খাদ্য থেকে রক্ত তৈরী করতে পারেনা শরীর,  সারা জীবন একটু বেশি দেখাশোনায় রাখতে হবে. মেয়েটা জিতবে ভেবে নিয়েছে,  নতুন রানিং শু পেয়ে যেন আরো খুশি. ওয়েটার মটন কোর্মা আর বাটার নান দিয়ে গেছে,
_____ বাবাই দেখো মটন কোর্মা টা খুব সুন্দর বানিয়েছে,
এই রেস্টুরেন্টের খাবার খুব ই ভালো , বাণীকে নিয়েও অনেকবার এসেছে.
____ হ্যাঁ রে মা. খুব ভালো বানায়...
বাড়ির জন্যও প্যাক করে নিচ্ছি.  তোর মা আসলোনা তো.
_____ কি মজা বাবাই,  বাড়িতে গিয়েও খাবো.
____ জানো বাবাই স্কুলে কি হয়েছে
রিম্পা স্কুলের বন্ধুদের গল্প বলতে শুরু করে. বাবা মেয়ের বন্ধুত্ব গল্প কখনই যেন শেষ হয়না.

প্রতিযোগিতার দিন
ভোর রাত্রির থেকে বাণী উঠে পড়েছে  মেয়ের জন্য খাবার তৈরী করেছে,  অনেকটা দূর যেতে হবে, সল্টলেক স্টেডিয়াম. সুভাষ সমর প্রসেনজিৎ তারাও এসে পড়েছে,  সকলের জন্য কিছু খাবার নিয়ে নিয়েছে. রঞ্জন বাবুও মেয়ে কে ঘুম থেকে তুলে বাকিদের কে ফাইনাল ট্রিক দিচ্ছেন.  স্পোর্টস শু,  ট্র্যাকস্যুট সব ঠিক মতো গুছিয়ে নেওয়া হয়েছে কিনা , শেষ মুহূর্তে বাণীকেই ফাইনাল দেখাশোনা করতে হবে,  নইলে কিছু একটা পড়ে থাকবেই.
বজবজ থেকে সল্টলেক,  অনেকটা পথ পৌঁছাতে পৌঁছাতে প্রায় 9:30.   দশটা থেকে প্রথম ইভেন্ট শুরু.  মাইকে তার ই ঘোষণা শোনা যাচ্ছে বার বার.  মেয়ের প্রতিযোগিতা ঠিক কখন তার লিস্ট দেখতে গেছেন রঞ্জন বাবু.  এদিকে বাণী মেয়েকে ট্র্যাকস্যুট পরিয়ে তৈরী করছেন.  স্পোর্টস এর দিন রঞ্জন বাবু মেয়েকে বেশি খেতে বারণ করেন, বেশি খেলে শরীর ভারি হয়ে যাবে ভালো লাফানো যাবেনা,  আবার বাণী মনে করে তার এমনিতেই অসুস্থ মেয়ে, বেশি করে না খেলে এতো পরিশ্রমে যদি মাথা ঘোরায়, রিম্পা এতক্ষনে ড্রেস পড়ে তৈরী হয়ে গেছে,  মাঠে হালকা জগিং করছে কি জানি যদি প্রথমে তার ইভেন্ট শুরু হয়. বাণী এদিকে মাঠের একদম কর্নারে ছায়া দেখে বসেছে,  প্রসেনজিৎ, সমর দের সকালের ব্রেকফাস্ট দিচ্ছে,  বাণী রঞ্জন বাবুকে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি এদিকেই আসতে দেখে ভাবছে,  নিশ্চই কারো ইভেন্ট শুরু হবে,  যেমনি ভাবা সেরকম ই ঘটনা, 
______ আঃ সমর খেয়োনা খেয়োনা,  বডি ভারি হয়ে যাবে,  এক্সারসাইজ করো, প্রথম আন্ডার এইটিন মহিলাদের 100mtrs,  তারপর তোমাদের বি  রেডি.  সমর তাড়াতাড়ি খাবার রেখে উঠে পড়লো,
_____ পরে খাবো আন্টি
বলেই হাল্কা জগিং করতে করতে এগিয়ে গেলো. প্রসেনজিৎ আর সুভাষ সাথে এসেছে, ওরা বাবু হয়ে বসে ব্রেকফাস্ট করতে লাগলো.
_____ মেয়ের ইভেন্ট কখোন??
বাণীর প্রশ্নে, একটু মন মরা হয়ে রঞ্জন বাবু উত্তর দিলেন
____ একদম শেষ ইভেন্ট.   মেয়েটা অসুস্থ! এতো দেরিতে ওর ইভেন্ট,  যাক ওকে কিছু খাইয়ে দাও এখন,  আর কিন্তু খাওয়া যাবেনা
_____ তাই হয় নাকি,  আরো দুর্বল হয়ে যাবে
______ না না বডি ভারি হয়ে যাবে
রঞ্জন বাবু স্পোর্টস এসোসিয়েশন এর সদস্য,  একসময়কার জাতীয় স্তরের চ্যাম্পিয়ন এখানে শুধু মেয়েকে নিয়ে আসা না,  ভলেন্টিয়ার হিসেবেও আছেন.  তাই আর সময় নষ্ট না করে মেয়ের মাথায় হাত বুলিয়ে.চলে গেলেন.  
লাল রঙের ব্লেজার এ বেশ স্মার্ট লাগছে রঞ্জন কে, বাণী এক পলক তাকিয়ে, নিজের মনেই মুচকি হেসে মেয়েকে কাছে ডাকে
_____ আয় খেয়ে নে মা,  তোর বাবা আর পরে খেতে দেবে না.
সমর খুব ভালো দৌড়ায় ও জিতবেই.
মেয়েকে খাইয়ে ব্যালকনি তে গিয়ে বসে বাণী, প্রসেনজিৎ, সুভাষ, সমরের ইভেন্ট শুরু হবে.  রিম্পা ও সাথে এসেছে, তার ইভেন্ট একদম শেষে তাই ব্যস্ততা নেই. সমর  স্টার্টিং পয়েন্ট এ দাঁড়িয়ে রিভালবার এর আওয়াজ,  দৌড় শুরু  প্রসেনজিৎ, সুভাষ চিৎকার করছে সমর , সমর..... সমর ছুটছে সবার আগে, কিন্তু  শেষ মুহূর্তে বেরিয়ে গেলো শিলিগুড়ি. সমর দ্বিতীয়. রঞ্জন বাবু সমরের পিঠে হাত দিয়ে কিছু বোঝাচ্ছে,  দূর থেকে বাণী দেখছে সমর চোখ মুছছে,  হয়তো রঞ্জন বাবু সমর কে এটাই বলছে  দ্বিতীয় হওয়াও কোনো কম কথা নয়.

প্রায় পোনে চারটে বাজে রঞ্জন বাবু বাণীর কাছে মাঠে এসে বসলেন মনটা অস্থির মনে হচ্ছে
_____ কি গো কি হয়েছে
_____ এখানেও রাজনীতি বাণী
______ মানে -
______ স্বরস্বতী নস্কর মনে আছে? জেলা স্পোর্টসে যাকে হারিয়েছিলো  রিম্পা, ও অন্য জেলার প্রতিনিধি হয়ে এসেছে,
_____ কিন্তু এটা তো নিয়ম বিরুদ্ধ বিষয়
_____ কে মানবে বলো,  আর ওকে কে এনেছে জানো?  অমল কবিরাজ?  স্পোর্টস এসোসিয়েশন এ আমার বিরোধী পক্ষ.
বাণী একটু চুপ করে থেকে বলে
_____ তুমি চিন্তা করছো কেনো? তোমার মেয়েকে জিততে হলে, সকলের সাথে লড়ে জিততে হবে,  তুমি স্বরস্বতী কে চেনো তাই ভাবছো,  এরকম কতো স্বরস্বতী আছে,  আর তোমার মেয়ে তো অসুস্থ তুমি জানো,
_____ অমল কবিরাজ তোমার মেয়েকে হারিয়ে তোমাকে হারাতে চাইছে?? সেটা তার চিন্তা, তোমার তো নয়.
রিম্পা কখোন এসে পিছনে দাঁড়িয়েছে বাণী বা রঞ্জন বাবু দুজনের কেউ ই খেয়াল করেননি,
______ বাবাই আমি চেষ্টা করবো
বলেই ছুটে চলে যায় লং জাম্পের পিঠের দিকে. এক এক করে নাম ডাকা নম্বর মেলানো.
রিম্পার মাথায় মা বাবার কথা গুলো ভাসছে,  সেকি পারবে? সত্যি তো সে অসুস্থ,  বাবার সম্মান কি সে রাখতে পারবে???  প্রতিযোগিতা শুরু হয়ে গেছে. একের পর এক প্রতিযোগী আসছে তাদের বেস্ট দিয়ে যাচ্ছে,  এবার রিম্পার  টার্ন,  রিম্পা দৌড়ে এসে লাফ দিলো কিন্তু একি, কোথায় টেকআপ কোথায় সেই সিজারিং. প্রথমে তিনটে করে জাম্প দেবার সুযোগ তারপর বেস্ট ছয় জন আরো তিনটে সুযোগ পাবে,  দ্বিতীয় জাম্প, ডিসকোয়ালিফাই, রঞ্জন বাবু একবার ছুটে আসছে মেয়ের কাছে আবার চলে যাচ্ছে কে কতো লাফাচ্ছে দেখছে,  প্রথম তিনটে জাম্পের শেষ জাম্প. না এইটা মোটামুটি হয়েছে মেয়েটাকি আরো তিনটে সুযোগ পাবে, ভলেন্টিয়ার রা সকলের জাম্পের মেজারমেন্টের হিসেব করে নাম ঘোষণা করছে, রিম্পা মাঠে বসে পড়েছে, খুব কান্না পাচ্ছে, চেষ্টা টুকুও যেন করতে পারলোনা. 
______নম্বর 6 রিম্পা......
রিম্পা এক লাফে উঠে দাঁড়িয়েছে.  আবার শুরু একের পর এক প্রতিযোগী তার বেস্ট জাম্প দিচ্ছে,  সরস্বতী নস্কর প্রথম স্থানে আছে এখনো, রিম্পা শুধু ভাবছে বেস্ট টুকু দিতে পারি যেনো,  রঞ্জন বাবু ছটফট করছে,  বাণী স্থির হয়ে শুধু মেয়ের দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে, শেষের তিনটে জাম্প রিম্পা ছুটে এলো টেক আপ নিয়ে শুন্যে দুটো পায়ের সিজারিং টেকনিক,  এতো সুন্দর তো রঞ্জন বাবু আগে কোনোদিন মেয়েকে দেখেননি, মনে আশা যেনো দানা বাঁধছে, দ্বিতীয় জাম্প, অভূতপূর্ব, কিন্তু স্বরস্বতী এখনো এগিয়ে, রঞ্জন বাবু মেয়ের দিকে এগিয়ে আসে, বাবার চোখে এ ভাষা রিম্পা যেনো আগে কখনো দেখেনি,  বাণী দেখছে লাল ব্লেজার এ রিম্পার বাবা না একজন গুরু এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে তার শিষ্যের কাছে শেষ উপদেশ দিতে,
________ শেষ সুযোগ মা, নইলে সামনে সব ব্ল্যান্ক হয়ে যাবে...  শেষ কামড় মা, শেষ সুযোগ
রিম্পার নাম ডাকা হয়েছে,  রিম্পা দৌড়ে আসছে, সমর, প্রসেনজিৎ, সুভাষ সবাই চুপ, রঞ্জন বাবু মেয়ের দিকে এক  দৃষ্টে তাকিয়ে আছে, বাণী দূর থেকে গুরু শিষ্যের বোঝা পড়া উপলব্ধি করতে চাইছে, টেকআপ বোর্ডে পা রেখে, হাল্কা তুলোর মতো শরীরটাকে শুন্যে তুলে দিয়েছে রিম্পা, শুন্যে সেই সিজারিং টেকনিক, যেনো শুন্যে দৌড়াচ্ছে, তারপর জাম্প..............
ভলেন্টিয়ার রা মেজারমেন্ট টেপ নিয়ে মাপছে,  ভীড় জমে উঠেছে, ভলেন্টিয়ার রা মেজারমেন্ট নিয়ে অফিসের দিকে চলে গেলো, কেউ কোনো কথা বলছেনা, নতুন রানিং শু খুলে, রিম্পা স্পোর্টস শু পড়েছে,  এবার ফেরবার পালা.  মাইকে এক্ষুনি রেজাল্ট বলবে
____আজকের মহিলা বিভাগের আন্ডার ফিফটিন লং জাম্পের বিজেতাদের ভিত্তি স্যান্ডের কাছে ডাকা হচ্ছে, তৃতীয়  রমা মাইতি দ্বিতীয় স্বরস্বতী নস্কর,  আর  তিন বছরের রেকর্ড ব্রেক করে প্রথম হয়েছেন   রিম্পা দেব তার রেকর্ড 4.75mtr. 15ফুট 7ইঞ্চি. মুহূর্তে জয়ের  আনন্দে  রঞ্জন বাবুর চোখে মুখ জ্বল জ্বল করে ওঠে ,  রঞ্জন বাবু আনন্দে মেয়েকে জড়িয়ে ধরে...  তার অসুস্থ মেয়েটা আজ জিতে গেছে,
_____ বাণী আমার অসুস্থ মেয়েটা জিতে গেছে গো.
বাণীর চোখের কোনায় জল চিক চিক করে ওঠে, অনেক কষ্টে  সামলে নিয়ে বলে
______ আর মেয়ে মেয়ে করতে হবেনা, মেয়ে ভিত্তি স্ট্যান্ডে উঠবে ছবি তোলো....
